Travel Grants Program
The India Network Foundation is pleased to announce 2008 Grant Program to support Social and Cultural Functions in the United States, and Travel Grants to attend scientific meetings.
The program is open to all Cultural and Social Associations of India Origin and to scientists in all fields in South Asia whose paper has been accepted for presentation at a national/international scientific meeting to be held in North America. Peer reviewed presentations are given preference over automatic invitation generating conferences. Poster presentations are not eligible for travel grant at this time. The grants made possible by a generous donation from Dr. KV Rao and the India Network Health Insurance Program. |
Types of Travel Grants
Community Organization Grants
Community Organization grants are to help small and medium community organizations in the United States with limited resources to host artists from India or to promote local artistic talent among Asian Indian youth living in the United States.
Organizations are encouraged to contact India Network Foundation office with their proposals. All proposals should be submitted at least six months ahead of planned event or function. The grant funds should be exclusively used for sponsored event and no overhead costs or equipment purchases are allowed. Preference will be given to events that involve an artist participation from Rural India and focus on Traditional Indian Cultural Arts.
Medical travel insurance will be awarded for each grant recipient for a period of one month under the India Network Health Insurance.

Academic Travel grants are designed to help India based researchers to present their papers at National and International Conferences held in the United States. This program is open all University Faculty and Doctoral Program students in India. The Travel Grants also include medical insurance while attending United States based meetings or conferences for the upcoming year.
Grant funds will cover travel and other conference related actual expenses (travel, hotel, medical insurance). However, no stipends nor funds for preparation of research papers are provided. Preference will be given to participants that have received partial support from the home institutions or conference organizers. Peer reviewed Conference presentations are given preference over conferences with automatic invitations.

Small Grant Request
What is an unsolicited small grant request?
A small grant request is a proposal for Foundation to assist researchers and academics in their early career with seed funding to develop broader and bigger project proposals suitable for funding with national and international agencies. Typically, small grant requests are made for one-time-only projects or activities of a limited duration. Small grant awards are $2,500 or less.
What is the application process?
Small grant requests should be submitted well in advance of the starting date of the proposed activity. Requests for funds should be submitted at least 90 days in advance of conferences or the projected start date of an activity.
Grant requests should contain 1) a letter explaining the project or activity, and 2) a complete proposed budget. The letter should describe the:
Match.
All Small grants proposals should be matched by their parent institutions. The match can be in kind or direct dollar amount to assist the researcher. The Foundation will not award funds to be used as a substitute for other available funds and encourages those making proposals to show significant effort in seeking funds from other sources. With respect to any proposal, the Foundation will use its discretion in awarding part or all of the total request.
Foundation Recognition.
When Foundation grants are awarded, all presentations, publications, printed materials or any project that involves publicity, the Foundation requires that its support be acknowledged in a prominent manner.

- Target audience - number, age group, relationship to persons with developmental disabilities, etc.
- Project activities, including specific activities for which Council funds are requested. A brochure, agenda or other printed materials describing a conference or event should be included where applicable.
- Outcomes expected - How will the project be evaluated? If funds are requested for a conference, there must be a plan of how results will be shared with the others.
- Rationale for Council funding.
- Efforts to obtain funding from sources other than or in addition to the Council.
- The budget should be submitted on the Council's Proposed Budget form. Please note that the form asks for the 9-digit federal employer identification number or an individual's social security number.

At its discretion, the Council will select proposals that encourage the full inclusion of people with developmental disabilities in and contributions to Maryland's schools, communities, and work places. Examples of small grant proposals include but are not limited to:

- The Council typically does not fund equipment. The Council will not fund attendance at conferences or workshops that are intended to design treatment for specific individuals.
